Alternative NameMercy CollegeSt Patrick's High SchoolSacred Heart CollegeDescriptionRoncalli College provides Catholic secondary schooling in Timaru. It is named after Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli who became Pope John XXIII.
Roncalli College was created in 1982 when the boys catholic high school, St Patrick's, merged with the catholic girls school, Mercy College. St Patrick's was run by the Marist order, and Mercy College was run by the Mercy sisters, from their convent. the girls' college was established in 1936, and was originally called Sacred Heart College, before changing its name to Mercy College in 1969.

The original single sex schools were separated by a corrugated iron fence which ran the length of the boundary. Many of the buildings of the current school are remnants from the days of the single sex schools.
