Timaru District Libraries Online Heritage Collection
Timaru District Libraries welcome you to the online component of the Aoraki Heritage Collection. Browse or search our constantly growing database.
Our aim is to provide easy online access to the non-lendable material in the Aoraki Heritage Collection. This is an ongoing digitisation project with items being added regularly.
The Aoraki Heritage Collection was established in 2014 to capture the history of the people, places and environment of the South Canterbury region. The name of this collection reflects the importance of Aoraki/Mount Cook to the region and its inhabitants, especially to Kāi Tahu as mana whenua for whom Aoraki is a revered tipuna.
The collection consists of local histories, histories of schools, churches, clubs and organisations, published and unpublished family histories, local guidebooks, cookbooks, directories, school yearbooks, biographies of local people and fiction by local authors. These are held at the Timaru Library. For more information on items in the collection and access to items that are not digitised please contact us at aoraki@timdc.govt.nz
Timaru District Libraries hold a large collection of local newspapers, find out about these here.
