Alternative NameTakapōTekapoDescriptionThe small township of Takapō/Tekapo is located at the southern end of the lake of the same name. It is approximately 43 kilometres west of Fairlie in the Mackenzie District of New Zealand. Lake Tekapo is part of the Waitaki Hydro Electric Scheme. Tekapo A power station (commissioned in 1951) sits just south of the township on the Tekapo Canal, which runs 26km to Tekapo B power station (commissioned 1977) on the eastern shore of Lake Pūkaki.
