Alternative NameTimaru HarbourPort of TimaruPrime Port TimaruDescriptionFollowing the loss of many ships off the coast of Timaru, construction on an artificial port began in the 1870s. After the construction of the northern breakwater in the late 1880s sediment built up creating the sandy beach at Caroline Bay. Today the Timaru Port caters for cargo, marine and fishing services.
