Alternative NameSouth Canterbury Centennial CommitteeDescriptionIn 1954 a public meeting was held in Timaru to discuss how to commemorate the upcoming South Canterbury Centenary. A committee was formed comprising of mayors from Timaru city and the three boroughs, the chairmen of the four counties of South Canterbury, and members of the South Canterbury Historical Society. The committee commissioned Oliver Gillespie to write a history of the area to mark the centennial. The first edition was published in 1959, with the later edition in 1971 correcting some errors.
