Alternative NameLake PūkakiDescriptionLake Pūkaki is the largest lake in the Mackenzie District of the South Island of New Zealand, and is fed at its northern end by the braided Tasman River. Fine rock particles from the surrounding glaciers reflect in the sun giving the lake its brilliant turquoise colour. Pūkaki village once sat on the southern shore of the lake, but no longer exists after the lake level was raised with the development of the Waitaki Hydro Electric Scheme. Tekapo B power station is situated on Lake Pūkaki’s eastern shore.
