DescriptionTe Waimate Station was established by Michael Studholme, the first European settler to the Waimate area of South Canterbury, New Zealand. He arrived in the district in 1854. During a meeting with the local chief, Te Huruhuru, the two men made several agreements. After being granted several pastoral licences Studholme amassed a total area of 98,500 acres. The first European dwelling in Waimate, 'The Cuddy', was constructed by Studholme on Te Waimate. 'The Cuddy' is still standing today.
