Last NamePhar LapSummaryRacehorseDescriptionPhar Lap was a racehorse who was bred in Seadown, near Timaru. He went to Australia as a two year old and went on to gain international fame as a racehorse, including winning the 1930 Melbourne Cup. Phar Lap died in mysterious circumstances, with many people believing he was poisoned.

Phar Lap means 'lightening' in the Thai language.

There are two statues commemorating Phar Lap in the Timaru District, one near the farm he was born on in Seadown and the other at the Phar Lap Raceway in Washdyke.
