Alternative NameHighland GamesDescriptionCaledonian Games or Highland Games were introduced to New Zealand by Scottish immigrants. Once incredibly popular in South Canterbury, events were historically held in Timaru, Waimate, Temuka, St Andrews, Pleasant Point and Fairlie.
Timaru's Caledonian Games which ran each New Year’s Day from 1876 before ending in 2009.
The Waimate Caledonian Games have been run for over 145 years.
