The Harcourts / Public Trust Office building plaque

DescriptionPhotographs (closeup and showing location) of the 1922 plaque on the Harcourts Building, on the corner of Church and Sophia Streets, Timaru.

This building was built in 1922/23 and was originally the Public Trust Office. It is architecturally significant as an example of the work of successful Timaru architect, Walter Panton. It is historically significant because of its association with the Public Trust and the development of the Timaru town centre.

The builder, William Harding, was a local builder who worked on a number of other local Panton designed buildings including the 1933 clock tower addition to the Timaru Borough Council Offices.
