He occupied the run between 1869 and 1874, before selling to try his luck in the North Island. However, he returned to the Mackenzie Country and purchased the aptly named 'Mistake Station' (now the site of Godley Peaks) but was forced to abandon it, penniless.
'Big Mick' later became a well known guide at Mt Cook.
