Alternative NameTwizel Primary SchoolTwizel High SchoolDescriptionIn 1970 Twizel Primary School and Twizel High School opened to provide schools for the children of the workers on the Upper Waitaki Power Project.
On the completion of the project the number of people requiring schooling in the district reduced. Therefore in 1986 the primary and high schools were consolidated into the Twizel Area School on the high school site.
The area school is a state co-educational area school catering for students in years 1 - 13.
