DescriptionLyalldale is a rural area to the west of St Andrews in South Canterbury, New Zealand. It developed out of the Pareora No. 2 Settlement following the final subdivision of the Pareora Estate in 1900, when land in the district was allotted by ballot. The area became known as Lyalldale after the opening of the local school in 1901, which was named in honour of George Lyall, the last manager of the Pareora Estate. The history of Lyalldale reflects changes in farming practices over time, as well as the families and community services that supported the district’s rural settlement (see 'Lyalldale: a vision realised' by John Button).External LinkTimaru District Libraries: Search "Lyalldale"Geolocation[1] Geo AddressSouth Canterbury, 7988, New ZealandSubjectStations and Runs
