Publication TypeBookDescriptionThis book is a biography of Tūhawaiki. He was known as Hone or John Tūhawaiki, and called 'Bloody Jack' by the sealers of Foveaux Strait, and was the leader of Kāi Tahu in Murihiku. He lived on Ruapuke Island but spent a lot of his time travelling Kāi Tahu territory. Tuhawaiki drowned off the coast, approximately 5km south of Timaru in 1844. The point where he drowned now bears his name:Tuhawaiki (Jack's) Point, and is commonly known to locals as Jack's Point.
