DescriptionAerial photo of Sacred Heart School, taken during the Gigatown promotion.

The Gigatown competition run by Chorus, was launched in October 2013. Towns and cities from around New Zealand competed to become New Zealand’s Gigatown and win subsidised pricing for gigabit fibre broadband.

Timaru was one of five towns to make it to the final round in September 2014, but Dunedin eventually came out on top and was declared the winner in November 2014.
