DescriptionŌtipua Creek (South and North Branches) becomes Saltwater Creek, which runs along the south edge of Timaru from Centennial Park to the coast. To the south of Saltwater Creek (to the east of State Highway One) are the Ōtipua Wetlands. The area just north of the creek towards the coast was the original home of aviation in South Canterbury. Extensively drained and engineered, this area was used by the newly established South Canterbury Aero Club from the 1940s through until an airport was built at Levels (north of Timaru) in the 1950s.
