DescriptionThe Wolds was part of the first station to be taken up in the Mackenzie Country of South Canterbury. It was originally occupied by John McHutcheson in about 1856. Other early station managers included Thomas Williamson Hall and William H Ostler. In 1869 Alexander Bruce Smith and William Saunders purchased the Wolds, and in 1872 Saunders bought Smith out. In 1902, Saunders sold the Wolds to William Grant whose family held it until 1957 when it was subdivided.
