She arrived in New Zealand in 1856 with her parents and ten of her siblings. In 1858 she married Charles Tripp and the couple went on to have eight children. Charles Tripp along with John Barton Arundel Acland had established Ōrāri Gorge Station and Mt Peel Station in 1855 when they were granted an extensive pastoral lease in South Canterbury. In 1861 the partnership came to an amicable end with Charles Tripp taking over Ōrāri Gorge Station and Acland remaining at Mount Peel.
